I think that the hypodermic syringe effect could definitely be applied as an incentive for some people's behaviour. I think this applies more to younger generations because as children are growing up they are constantly experiencing and learning new things and can't necessarily tell things from right and wrong. Therefore if they're watching a violent programme/film they may think that this is an okay way to act and they may carry this thought through out their lives.
I, personally don't feel like I have been affected by any media text as whenever I'm watching a film for example, I always know in the back of my head that it isn't real.
How the media can influence an audience
In order to answer this question I have chosen to look at the film Saw as an example. Everybody who has watched Saw will agree that this is a very gruesome, out of the ordinary film and this is because the actions performed in the film are not things that happen in every day life. We've said that not all viewers react the same to things but this could excite some viewers as it is very graphical and shows a lot of detail into the deaths of people, for example when a girl has to cut her leg of to get out of the chain it is shown very clearly how she does this. Watching this film could become someone's fantasy to making it come to reality.
