What is a director?

When searching on google the definition of a direction this is what came up: the person who directs the making of a film, but what does directing actually involve?

Looking at a website, here are some expectations for a director:

  • creative and artistic
  • decisive and assertive
  • mentally and physically energetic
  • able to think on the spot
  • able to work on deadlines
Another definition of a director that I found was this: the person responsible for bringing together the technical aspects of capturing performances with the actors who will bring a story to life
This shows how important the role of a director really is.

In my opinion a director is somebody who takes lead in the making process of a film/tv programme. A director is a person with a lot of ideas, willing to experiment and work with them until they make something worth watching out of them. A director is somebody who has a story line and puts it together like a puzzle, adding his/her own twist to it. Without a director there would be no movie.
