I am Ledgend: Conventional or Unconventional?

Whilst watching the opening title sequence of I am Ledgend we were asked to look closely at its conventions.

In many ways it is conventional, it begins with a news report (it tells us that a cure for cancer has been found) which is shown in a different aspect ratio of 7:9 as apposed to the 16:9 ratio which the movie is shown in. Shortly after the news report ends, the scene is established to the viewers showing us what looks like a big American city, we can tell this because of the yellow cabs and sky scraping buildings. Mise-en-scene is introduced to us when we hear the charachter speak in an American accent which can also be identified as diegetic sound, aswell as other sounds which we come across such as russling grass. Also, the fact that Will Smith is the leading character in the movie shows us that this movie is high status as he is a very well known actor.

However in some ways, the opening title sequence is also shown as being unconventional. For example, there is a non diegetic soundtrack and the directors credits are shown throughout the news report. In addition, all the way through the opening title sequence there is nothing to interrupt the audiences engagement therefore it has to be viewed whilst "glued to your seat".

There are both conventional and unconventional aspects to the OPS of I am Ledgend but they both have the same effect on the audience which is to leave them wanting more.
